Galleries: Cats in Bangkok

Bangkok 2014
Cats are an integral part of large Asian cities. Particularly in Bangkok – the city that is known for its crowds and open street food culture. While in neon street lights, locals and tourists are enjoying a padthay, cats are running around the legs of plastic seats looking for food scraps of the local cuisine.
However, there is a characteristic that differentiates Asian cats from European stray cats. While roaming in Bangkok or Phnom Penh, you will easily spot cats with short tails.
Opposed to what you might think, neither the wheels of speedy tuk-tuks nor the owners that fancy fashionable cat hairstyles are responsible for this phenomenon. After a few conversations with locals, we discovered that this specific feature is a result of the short tail gene of the Japanese and Siamese cat, which has gradually spread across Asia.
